Tahitian Pearls: Also known as the “black South Sea pearls”
The “Pinctada margaritifera”, is the special black lipped oyster that makes the Tahitian pearls. It grows to a remarkably large size, and can reach up to a foot in length, and on average can weigh 10 pounds. This specific mollusk can only be found in Polynesia (Tahiti), and its neighboring islands.
Cultured Pearls: Cultured pearls are the most produced pearl in the world.
Cultured pearls are the most produced pearl in the world. The reason is because they were made so that pearl farmers could preserve the beauty of this rare gem, without sacrificing any of the natural balance that was required for these gems to continue to thrive in their entire splendor. Cultured pearls share in the same exquisiteness as those that are natural. The only difference is that there are more cultured than natural pearls, because they have a higher chance of survival.
